Matt LeBlanc recalls shoulder dislocation he suffered during filming of Friends
LeBlanc suffered the injury during the filming of an episode titled The One Where No One's Ready
Friends: The Reunion released earlier today, with the original six members of Friends, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer getting back to the sets of Friends and reminiscing the memories of shooting the show.
In one such segment, Matt LeBlanc recalled the time when he suffered a shoulder dislocation during the show.
In the second episode of the third season, titled The One Where No One's Ready, LeBlanc's Joey Tribbiani and Perry's Chandler Bing fight over who gets to sit on a chair. At one moment, both the characters sprint towards the chair, with Joey jumping into the chair. Recalling the shoot, creator Marta Kaufmann said, "We shot it 3 times and it went perfectly. Lord knows why we had to shoot it a fourth time."
She says this because LeBlanc suffered a shoulder dislocation during the fourth shot. "I jumped over the coffee table and I somehow tripped. And my legs went up in the air and my shoulder came out of the socket," recalled the actor. The injury resulted in the crew halting the filming of the episode.
The special episode even played the original footage of the incident to the six cast members, with Kudrow and Aniston wincing and turning away to avoid seeing it. The injury was later weaved into the show, with a credit scene in which it is hinted that Joey injured his hand after falling down while jumping on his bed. "See Joe that's why your parents told you not to jump on the bed," said Chandler.
In the special, LeBlanc also recalled that this was the only episode where they did not do the huddle - something which the Friends cast always did before a shoot. Matt added that they always did the huddle after the incident. "Yeah! I don't want anything else falling off. After that we always did it."
Friends: The Reunion is currently streaming on HBO Max. Viewers in India can watch the special episode on Zee5.
