Chinmayi hosts concert on Twitter spaces; listeners trend #WeWantChinmayiBack in solidarity

Time and again we have seen how a social media trend can make a change even in the highest power structures. We have seen films being made thanks to a social media movement a la Zack Snyder's Justice League. On Sunday evening, we once again saw a glimpse of social media's power thanks to a spaces session hosted by singer-voice actor Chinmayi.

In this newly developed feature on Twitter, apart from singing from her set playlist, Chinmayi also took requests, and occasionally answered questions from fans about the trials she is facing following her expose of lyricist Vairamuthu as part of the MeToo movement. She also shared how her ban from the dubbing union was still in place, and spoke about the drying up of singing offers in Tamil cinema.

Within no time, the listeners of the space took it upon themselves to trend the hashtag - #WeWantChinmayiBack. Soon enough, this became a trending topic on social media. Through this hashtag, hundreds of listeners expressed their solidarity with Chinmayi. They also expressed their admiration for her struggle against the system. Whether the system will make note of this solidarity and respond to her voice of concern will definitely be a developing story.

This was a non-profit concert Chinmayi conducted for her listeners on Twitter, and it went on for a few hours despite a few glitches that forced her to restart the spaces multiple times.
