Veteran actor Sowcar Janaki calls the Me Too movement a 'shameless publicity stunt'

Just a day after singer, voice actor, and leading #MeToo campaigner, Chinmayi Sripaada was in the news after being asked to pay 1.5 lakh rupees and tender an apology letter to be reinstated into the dubbing union, a video featuring an interview with veteran actor Sowcar Janaki, where she terms the MeToo movement "rubbish" and "crap", is being shared across social media platforms.

The interview video, which was recently published by an online channel, has another veteran actor YG Mahendra asking Sowcar Janaki about the advice she would give to young actors in this age when harassment accusations are on the rise. Sowcar Janaki was quick to register her aversion for the MeToo movement. Calling the movement a "shameless publicity stunt", Janaki questioned the need to broadcast personal issues that had happened long back to the general public now. "What are they trying to prove through this campaign? The allegations are bound to affect only the family of those who are making these claims. Once you come out and complain about something that happened years ago, your respect in the society is gone forever. I am a feminist. But, I am totally against this nonsensical trend in the name of Me too," she said, as the interviewer YG Mahendra nodded in agreement.

Chinmayi shared the video on Twitter and thanked the channel "for showing the true face of some people," sarcastically adding, "Feminism indeed."
