Trevante Rhodes to star as Mike Tyson in Hulu's Iron Mike
The production of Iron Mike is set to begin later this year
Moonlight-actor Trevante Rhodes will portray the controversial heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson in Hulu's upcoming eight-part series Iron Mike.
The series will explore the controversial life and career of the former world champion. Iron Mike hails from I, Tonya writer Steven Rogers and director Craig Gillespie.
Actor Margot Robbie is serving as executive producer with Mixed-ish’s Karin Gist serving as showrunner and executive producer. Additionally, 20th Television's Rogers, Gist, Rhodes, Gillespie and Robbie are producing alongside The Gist of It’s Claire Brown, Clubhouse Pictures’ Bryan Unkeless and Scott Morgan, LuckyChap’s Tom Ackerley and Entertainment 360’s Darin Friedman.
Rhodes is well-known for playing adult Chiron in Moonlight. His recent credits include Netflix’s Birdbox and Hulu’s The United States vs. Billie Holiday.
The production of Iron Mike is set to begin later this year. Iron Mike has been grappled with controversies ever since Hulu ordered the series. Tyson had accused Hulu of “cultural misappropriation” and said it was “tone deaf” to announce the series, particularly during Black History Month.
Moreover, Tyson is also attached to executive produce a scripted show with Jamie Foxx attached to star. The project is yet to sign a broadcaster or a streamer.
