The Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial, Gangubai Kathiawadi, starring Alia Bhatt in the titular role, has wrapped production. In a series of tweets, Alia expressed gratitude to the film's team and the filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali for the "life-changing experience" while sharing photos from the film's set.

"We started shooting Gangubai Kathiawadi on the 8th of December, 2019, and wrapped the film now, 2 years later! This film and the set have been through two lockdowns, two cyclones, director and actor getting Covid during the making. The troubles the set has faced is another film altogether! But through all that and more, what I take away is the gigantic, mind-blowing, heart-wrenching life-changing experience!" wrote Alia.

She added, "Being directed by sir has been a dream all my life, but I don’t think anything would have prepared me for the journey I was on for these two years. I walk out of this set a diff person today! I love you, sir! Thank you for being you, there is truly NO ONE like you. When a film ends a part of you ends with it! Today I’ve lost a part of me. Gangu, I love you! You will be missed."

Gangubai Kathiawadi also stars Vijay Raaz, Indira Tiwari, and Seema Pahwa in prominent roles. Ajay Devgn will be appearing in an extended cameo, joining hands with the director 20 years after their first collaboration, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. A co-production between Bhansali Productions and Pen India Limited, the makers are shortly expected to announce the film's release date.
