Netflix orders Los Angeles Lakers-inspired office comedy series

Netflix has given a 10-episode series order to a workplace comedy inspired by the front office of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Written by Modern Family alumna Elaine Ko, the yet-untitled series follows Eliza Reed, the fictional team governor, who has to navigate NBA ownership and family drama with her best friend by her side.

According to Deadline, the story is inspired by the personal and professional equations between the family owners and front office team that together run the Los Angeles Lakers.

The project hails from Mindy Kaling (known for starring in The Office), Ko, Jeanie Buss (Lakers’ President and Governor),  and Warner Bros. TV.

Ko will serve as the showrunner and will executive produce with Kaling, Buss and Linda Rambis of the Lakers, and 3 Arts’ Howard Klein. Jordan Rambis will be a producer.

The series is produced by Mindy Kaling’s Kaling International in association with Warner Bros. Television, where Kaling is under an overall deal.
