Earlier last week, actor Vishal had lodged a police complaint against producer RB Choudhary for allegedly failing to acknowledge his repayment of the debt that he had got for the 2018 film Irumbu Thirai. The actor claimed that the producer failed to return the cheque leaves, bonds and promissory notes, despite the repayment of the loan.

Now, the producer has issued a statement clarifying his stand on the issue. In a 3-page letter, Choudhary explained the agreement he had with Vishal, as well as the issue pertaining to the missing documents. Choudhary stated that after Vishal cleared the dues for Irumbu Thirai, the former had given the said documents to director Shivakumar (director of Rettai Jadai Vayasu, Ajudha Poojai).

"However, Sivakumar passed away due to a heart attack, and we are unable to find the documents. The lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic further added trouble and we are yet to place the documents," stated Choudhary.

The producer further stated that Vishal's move to go to the police to retrieve the documents is right and justified. "However, many new reports suggested that Vishal alleges that I am trying to cheat him using the documents, to get back the finance that I extended to him to get the satellite rights for his Thupparivalan 2. Such reports are really saddening. I have produced over 92 films, in four languages, for over 40 years, but I have never come across such an accusation. Though I have financed a lot of my funds to others - some of which are yet to be returned - I don't hold anyone else's wealth. The Southern Indian film fraternity knows that will," added Choudhary in his statement.

As a closing note, the producer requested the bearers of the document to return the same to him, or to Vishal, or to the police. "If someone misuses the documents or refuses to return the documents, they will have to face severe criminal action as consequences," he added.

Irumbu Thirai, directed by PS Mithran and co-starring Arjun and Samantha, was a blockbuster and had one of the biggest openings in the career of Vishal. Apart from playing the lead, Vishal produced the film under his Vishal Film Factory.
