Jennifer Lopez to star in and produce sci-fi thriller Atlas for Netflix

Just after signing her first-look deal with Netflix, actor Jennifer Lopez will now star and produce in the streamer's upcoming sci-fi thriller Atlas.

Atlas is set to be directed by Brad Peyton (Rampage), with a script by Aron Eli Coleite, who is writing a draft based on Leo Sardarian's original script.

The film is set in a distant future when AI soldiers are on a path to end all humanity. The story follows Atlas, a woman who must fight for humanity, and to outthink this rogue AI, she must work with the one thing she fears most — another AI.

Atlas is the latest project to fall under the first-look deal between Lopez’s Nuyorican Productions and Netflix. As per the deal, Lopez, producing partner Goldsmith-Thomas and longtime manager Medina are set to produce a slate of films, television series, scripted and unscripted content, with an emphasis on projects that support diverse female actors, writers and filmmakers. Now, in accordance with the deal, two new projects were announced, both starring Lopez. These include The Mother, directed by Niki Carpo, and The Cipher, based on the novel by Isabella Maldonado.

Atlas will be produced by Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell for Safehouse Pictures, along with Peyton and Jeff Fierson for ASAP Entertainment as well as Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina joining Lopez to produce through Nuyorican Productions. Courtney Baxter will executive produce with Matt Schwartz co-producing.

Meanwhile, Lopez will also be seen in Universal's upcoming romantic-comedy Marry Me, opposite Owen Wilson. She also has Lionsgate's action-comedy Shotgun Wedding coming up.

Director Peyton is best known for his tentpole disaster features like San Andreas and Rampage.
