Kai Yu Wu and author Cherie Dimaline team up to adapt Empire of Wild into series

Kai Yu Wu, the writer known for titles like The Flash and Hannibal, is collaborating with screenwriter Cherie Dimaline to adapt the latter's horror novel Empire of Wild into a series.

Originally published in 2019, Dimaline's novel is a grounded indigenous folklore, that follows Joan, who after a year since her husband's disappearance, desperately tries to bring him back from the nefarious religious organisations and the supernatural forces that have claimed him.

The series hails from Fabel Entertainment, which was launched earlier this year by CEO Henrik Bastin. It marks Fabel’s first move into the genre. 

Dimaline, an indigenous writer, is best known for her YA novel The Marrow Thieves. She is currently writing on FX series Retreat. Wu is a Taiwanese-American writer who recently created Netflix series The Ghost Bride and wrote on Amazon’s Paper Girls.
