Hindi remake of Maanagaram titled Mumbaikar

We had earlier reported that Santosh Sivan was directing Vikrant Massey in the Hindi remake of Master director Lokesh Kanagaraj's debut Tamil film, Maanagaram. The title of the film has now been announced as Mumbaikar, and the project marks Vijay Sethupathi's Bollywood debut. It will be shot in Mumbai over a 50-day schedule, a report states.

Released in 2017, Maanagaram starred Sri, Sundeep Kishan, and Regina Cassandra in the lead roles. The story revolves around a young man who moves to Chennai and gets beaten up in a case of mistaken identity. Elsewhere, other characters face life-threatening situations and struggle to survive in a violent city.

Also starring Tanya Maniktala, Hridhu Haroon, Sanjay Mishra, Ranvir Shorey and Sachin Khedekar in important roles, Mumbaikar marks producer Shibu Thameens' debut in Bollywood.

Apart from directing, Santosh, who last shot the Priyadarshan film Rangrezz (2013) in Bollywood, will also be the cinematographer of Mumbaikar.

Meanwhile, Vijay Sethupathi is also set to star in Raj and DK's upcoming web series, and will feature alongside Shahid Kapoor and Raashi Khanna.
