Actor Bellamkonda Sai Sreenivas will star in the Telugu remake of Dhanush's Tamil action-drama Karnan, the makers announced Friday.

The Tamil film, directed by Mari Selvaraj, was released on April 9 to rave reviews and proved to be a box-office success. Bellamkonda Sreeenivas' father, producer Bellamkonda Suresh, has reportedly procured Karnan's remake rights and is planning to produce the film in Telugu.

Interestingly, yet another Dhanush-starrer Asuran, which recently won the National Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil, is being remade in Telugu as Narappa, with Venkatesh reprising the Raanjhanaa actor's role. Kalaipuli S Thanu, who produced Asuran, is also bankrolling the Telugu version in association with Suresh Babu Daggubati

Meanwhile, Sreenivas was last seen in the Sankranthi-release Alludu Adhurs and is currently working on the Hindi remake of Rajamouli's 2005 film Chatrapathi, which will mark his debut in Bollywood. The film was supposed to go on floors this month in Hyderabad but the shoot has been suspended due to a surge in COVID-19 cases.
