Ram Madhvani to helm a series on Jallianwala Bagh massacre

Director Ram Madhvani (Neerja, Aarya) will be helming a new original series based on the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, sources inform.

Tentatively titled Jallianwala Bagh: The Waking Of A Nation, the show is based on research from the Hunter Commission that was formed to investigate what happened in Punjab, and at Jallianwala Bagh. It is created by Ram Madhvani and is one of the projects he is doing under his banner Ram Madhvani Films.

The Jallianwala Bagh massacre took place on 13 April in 1919. Close to 400 people died when General Dyer and his soldiers opened fire on a crowd of non-violent protesters in Amritsar, Punjab. Following the incident, the Government of India formed the Hunter Commission to enquire into the killings. The event is seen as a turning point in India's freedom movement, deflecting public sentiment from the British regime.

Recently, Karan Johar's Dharma Productions announced a film on C Sankaran Nair, an Indian lawyer who fought the British Raj to uncover the truth behind the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

Ram Madhvani's upcoming release is Dhamaka on Netflix. The film stars Kartik Aaryan.
