A sequel to CBS's hit sitcom series How I Met Your Mother has been ordered at Hulu. Titled How I Met Your Father, the series will be headlined by Hilary Duff.

According to Variety, the sequel, set in the near future, will have Sophie (Duff) telling her son the story of how she met his father: a story that catapults us back to the year 2021 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options.

There is no official confirmation on whether the sequel will be linked to its predecessor.

This Is Us co-showrunners and Love, Victor co-creators Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger are attached to serve as writers and executive producers. How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas are also on board as executive producers. Duff will also produce the series, with Adam Londy serving as co-executive producer. 20th Television, the producers of the original, will also produce the new series.

How I Met Your Mother aired on CBS for a historic nine seasons, with over 200 episodes, from 2005-2014. The series starred Josh Radnor, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris, Jason Segel, and Alyson Hannigan. Bob Saget provided the voice of the narrator, an older version of Radnor’s character Ted Mosby.

This is not the first time a sequel to the series has been attempted. In 2013, CBS ordered a pilot for How I Met Your Dad, starring Greta Gerwig, with Meg Ryan attached as the narrator. The project, however, did not materialise.
