‘There’s fear and excitement’: TV actors on returning to shoot post lockdown

With shooting restrictions lifted in non-containment zones, several television shows have resumed production in Mumbai. Film bodies have urged actors and technicians to be extra cautious on set, and adhere to guidelines outlined by the state government. As the television industry limps back to normalcy, here are some popular actors on how they plan to return to the grind.

Daya Shankar Pandey, who portrayed the role of Lord Shani in Mahima Shanidev Ki

“While the instructions have come on paper, they yet have to be implemented practically. Everyone in the industry is waiting for others to step up first. I feel, all of us are somewhere worried for our lives. While I am ensuring that I keep myself physically strong, we need to psychologically stay fit too. There’s fear and excitement at the same time. Initially, we would shoot without any apprehensions, but now, somewhere at the back of our mind, we will always be worried about our surroundings. The atmosphere on the set too would not be the same anymore. I am positive that as an industry we will definitely come up with solutions to tackle these situations. There’s no specific routine that I am following. I will be going on sets and delivering my dialogues as required with all precautions. I am looking forward to resume shooting for Satyamev Jayate 2 with John Abraham and Haseen Dillruba with Tapsee Pannu and Vikrant Massey.”

Rahul Sharma from Pyaar Ki Luka Chuppi

“The first thing that I am doing to finally get back to the grind is fixing my sleep schedule. I try to sleep earlier than I would otherwise do during the lockdown. And even though it was difficult to find someone to cut my hair, I did manage to get it done. I will be getting my hands on some personal safety and hygiene things like sanitizers. I will make sure to take as many precautions as I can on the sets and in my make-up room. I will also be preparing my own food either the same or the previous day depending on my call time. Most probably, I will be driving to the sets and doing my makeup on my own. I think this is the maximum I can do and we have to figure out how we are going to live, grow, learn and earn in the situation. I am very excited to get back to shoot but there is just something that doesn't feel right because of the situation. But like always, I am looking at the brighter side.”

Ankit Arora from the serial Alif Laila

“I think everyone who belongs to the media and entertainment industry is excited and eager to get back on sets after a really long break. But along with this enthusiasm we all need to be alert and cautious for not only ourselves but for others too. It is bound to take some time to settle with the new guidelines and adapt to the change. Eventually, everyone will get used to it. As actors, it is our responsibility to practically lead the conversation of being safe and sanitized. Some artists have a couple of people in their team, I'm sure they will be responsible and reduce these numbers avoiding as much human intervention as possible. I have ensured that I maintain a daily regime. I make sure I exercise daily as it helps me stay alert, fresh and focused. I have continued to keep my vocal cords in check and practice regularly. This time also gave me the opportunity to watch a lot of content and observe a lot of great actors which will enhance my acting skills. I am a huge fan of Amitabh Bachchan and watched many of his films during these months. After a long break like this I am rested and ready to go with a roar.”
