BREAKING: Priyamani replaces Keerthy Suresh in Maidaan

Priyamani has replaced Keerthy Suresh in Amit Sharma’s Maidaan. Keerthy, who was cast as the female lead opposite Ajay Devgn, has left the film after shooting for just a day.

“The makers and Keerthy both felt that she looked too young as she had lost a lot of weight, since being signed for the film, to authentically portray the role of a mother as has been written in the script,” a statement read. As such, both parties have amicably decided on Keerthy not being a part of the film.

A sports drama, Maidaan traces the golden years of Indian football (1952–1962). The film stars Ajay Devgn as legendary football coach Syed Abdul Rahim, who led the Indian team to the semi-finals of the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Football.

Priyamani will be playing Syed Rahim’s wife. The actor was recently seen in Amazon Prime Video’s The Family Man, which marked her digital debut. She is also a part of Telugu remake of Asuran and reportedly essays the role of Sasikala in the Kangana Ranaut-starrer Thalaivi

Amit Sharma directed the blockbuster comedy, Badhaai Ho, in 2018.

Shot in Mumbai and Kolkata, Maidaan is scheduled for release on November 27.
