Since the early 90s, for about a decade, the 'Amman Padam' was a bonafide genre in Tamil cinema. After a long lull, this genre is set to return with RJ Balaji's debut directorial, Mookuthi Amman, starring Nayanthara.
However, reports suggest that rather than a devotional film, Mookuthi Amman will be a satire.
Announcing the news on social media, RJ Balaji said:
Balaji has written the story, screenplay, and dialogues of Mookuthi Amman, which he will be co-directing with NJ Saravanan.
The film will be bankrolled by Vels Films International, which incidentally produced LKG, Balaji's debut film as a lead actor. Apart from this project the banner is also producing Gautham Menon's next, Joshua, and has bailed out the director's long-delayed project, Enai Noki Paayum Thota, which is now slated for a November 29 release.
Meanwhile, Nayanthara, who recently starred in Bigil, will next be seen in Rajinikanth's Darbar and Netrikann, directed by Milind Rau of Aval fame.
