It was announced on Monday that Ajay Devgn will be essaying the role of Squadron Leader Vijay Karnik in his upcoming film Bhuj: The Pride of India. Written and directed by Abhishek Dudhaiya, the film is set in the backdrop of the 1971 Indo-Pak War. Joining the cast of the inspirational war drama are actors Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha, Parineeti Chopra, Rana Daggubati and Ammy Virk. 

Bhuj follows the true story of IAF wing commander Vinay Karnik who, along with 300 local women, rebuilt a bombed airstrip at the Bhuj airport in Gujarat during the war. Sanjay Dutt plays the role of a civilian named Ranchordas Svabhai Ravari, a ‘Pagi’ by profession who can identify a person’s gender, height and weight by their footprints.

Sonakshi Sinha essays the character of Sunderben Jetha Madharparya, a social worker and a farmer, who convinced the other 299 women from Madhapur to help build the runway.

Rana Daggubati plays Madras regiment Lt Colonel who was posted in Vighakot chowki and fought the Indo-Pak 1971 war. 

The role of Heena Rehman, an Indian spy staying in Lahore, is played Parineeti Chopra, while Punjabi actor Ammy Virk plays a fighter pilot who played a very crucial role in the historic win.

Co-produced by T-Series and Select Media Holdings LLP, the release date of the film is yet to be announced.
