Gautham Menon to play a negative role in Sibiraj's cop film, Walter
The director says that he was looking for someone unique with a powerful screen presence for a small, yet pivotal character
Director Gautham Menon, who last donned the greasepaint for Vijay Milton's Goli Soda 2, will be seen in an important negative role in Sibiraj's upcoming cop film, Walter, directed by debutant Anbu.
Anbu says that he was looking for someone unique with a powerful screen presence for a small, yet pivotal character in the film. "When we narrated the script and his role to Gautham Sir, he was very impressed, and immediately gave the go-ahead. Though his role will more of a cameo, it will bring about an important twist in the film. We will be completing the first schedule of Walter on July 3, and the portions involving Gautham sir will be shot in the second schedule, which will begin mid-July," he says.
Anbu adds that Walter will be an honest drama, set in Kumbakonam, about a small-town cop who gets to investigate a crime. "We have constructed a huge police station set in the heart of Kumbakonam town for the first and the second schedules of the shoot. Samuthirakani anna will be seen in an important role. We have also signed up Shirin Kanchwala (who recently made her debut with Nenjamundu Neramaiyundu Odu Raja) as the female lead. I am hopeful that the film will get a release this year," he says.
Walter had earlier run into trouble after producer Singaravelan, who was originally supposed to bankroll the film with a different cast, staked his claim over the title. However, the issue has now been resolved, with Singaravelan handing over the rights to the title to the present producer, Prabhu Thilak.
Meanwhile, Gautham Menon is awaiting the release of his web series on Jayalalithaa and the long-delayed Enai Noki Paayum Thota. He also has the filming of the rest of Vikram-starrer Dhruva Natchathiram pending. Sibi, on the other hand, has Ranga and Maayon in the pipeline.
