Excel Entertainment has released a 25-minute featurette on the making of their successful rap musical, Gully Boy. Directed by Zoya Akhtar, Gully Goy stars Ranveer Singh as an aspiring rapper from Dharavi in Mumbai.

The film, which was released in February this year, also features Alia Bhatt, Kalki Koechlin, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Vijay Verma, and Amruta Subhash, among others.

The featurette opens with Zoya recalling her source inspiration for the film — a 2014 independent music video called Aafat! released by Mumbai rapper Naezy. The film’s star cast talks about the conception of their characters and how the story took shape. Co-writer Reema Kagti, music supervisor Ankur Tiwari and production designer Suzanne Caplan Merwanji discuss their individual departments. We also get insights into the shooting of key sequences in the cramped locales of Dharavi.

Gully Boy is presently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. The film ranks among the top ten highest grossing Hindi films of 2019.
