Anu Sithara and Kaniha have joined the cast of Mammootty’s upcoming historical epic Maamankam. The actors confirmed the news through their respective social media handles. Recently, Unni Mukundan had revealed that he is also part of the film.

A self-confessed Mammootty fan, Anu was recently part of the actor's Oru Kuttanadan Blog. Maamankam marks her third collaboration with Mammootty, if the latter’s cameo appearance in Captain — which starred Anu and Jayasurya in lead roles — is also counted. Kaniha had earlier collaborated with Mammootty on another period film, Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja.

Anu was last seen in Neeyum Njanum, while Kaniha recently appeared in the Mohanlal film, Drama. The latter also makes an appearance in Jayaram’s Lonappante Mamodeesa, which is currently playing in theatres.

Maamankam has been in the news lately following a fallout between its original director, Sajeev Pillai, and the producers. After letting go of Sajeev alleging incompetence, the producers have brought in Joseph-director M Padmakumar to replace him. Meanwhile, Sajeev has been gaining support on social media in the past week after his allies in the film industry came forward with statements lauding his filmmaking skills.
