Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt and Anil Kapoor unite for Takht

The film directed by Karan Johar has screenplay by Sumit Roy

Karan Johar announced his next directorial venture, Takht, earlier today. Starring Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, and Anil Kapoor, the period drama will follow an ‘epic battle’ for the Mughal throne against the backdrop of love, greed, family and succession. 

The multi-starrer film also features Bhumi Pednekar, Vicky Kaushal and the late Sridevi's daughter Janhvi Kapoor.

The filmmaker’s last feature-length directorial was Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016) starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. He also directed one of the four short films in the Netflix anthology, Lust Stories (2018)

Ranveer, who has previously starred in historicals like Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat, shared his excitment on Twitter:

His co-star Alia, who made her debut in Bollywood with Karan's directorial Student Of The Year in 2012 tweeted:

The screenplay of Takht is written by Sumit Roy. He has also penned the dialogues with Hussain Haidry. Produced by Dharma Productions, Takht is expected to be released in 2020.

Meanwhile, Ranveer and Alia have already wrapped up Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy, which will hit the screens on February 14. The former is presently working on Rohit Shetty’s Simmba, while Alia is shooting for Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra.
