Prabhu Mundkur: Murphy will ride high on love and emotions

Almost one-third of the shoot of Prabhu Mundkur-starrer Murphy has been completed in Mangaluru. Directed by BS Pradeep Varma, who previously helmed Urvi, the rest of the film will be shot in various locations of Goa.

Co-written by Prabhu himself, Murphy went on floors on April 2, and the first schedule was done by April 15. “Shooting for parts of the film, set in a college, has been completed. We had planned to resume shooting in Goa for a month, and the schedule was supposed to begin on May 3. However, that stands postponed by a month or more due to the prevailing pandemic situation,” says the actor and writer, who also shared the first few stills of the film with us.

Murphy features Roshni Prakash and debutante Illa Veermalla as the heroines. Roshni, who made her debut with Kavaludaari, replaced Nishvika Naidu in the project.

According to Prabhu, the title is a family name, and while Dattanna plays the role of his grandfather Richard, he plays the role of David Murphy. Interestingly, the film has two different timelines, and thus features Prabhu in two looks. “The USP of the film is love and emotions, and how memories are expressed. That’s one of the reasons we chose to shoot against the backdrop of old structures, which are between 150 years and 400 years old,” he says.

Backed by Somanna under his Gowri Entertainments banner, Murphy will have Arjun Janya scoring the music. “The music director is coming up with a peppy number titled Mogachi, and the lyrics are currently being finalised. It will be a mix of Kodava and Spanish,” says Prabhu.

The dialogues of Murphy have been penned by filmmaker Naveen Reddy, and the film has Anand Sunderesha in charge of the cinematography.
