I want people to focus on the Accidental Prime Minister's creative aspects, not its political angle: Vijay Ratnakar Gutte
The film stars Anupam Kher, Akshaye Khanna, Suzanne Bernert, Aahana Kumra and Arjun Mathur
Vijay Ratnakar Gutte, director of The Accidental Prime Minister, feels the audience is assuming he has a political agenda behind releasing the film ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The filmmaker wants people to talk about the creative aspects of his film rather than its political backdrop.
When the trailer of the film was released last month, the Twitter handle of ruling party shared it. And since then, the film has been receiving polarised feedback from the general audience.
"The whole team -- the cast and the crew -- has worked really hard to put the film together. But the moment the ruling party tweeted the trailer of the film on social media, people started questioning if there is a political agenda," the director says.
The story of The Accidental Prime Minister, which is scheduled for release on January 11, is based on the book of the same name written by Sanjaya Baru, former media advisor of the former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The film features Anupam Kher, Akshaye Khanna, Suzanne Bernert, Aahana Kumra and Arjun Mathur, among others.
