Yaana Movie Review: A heartwarming road trip

Given the kind of Kannada films that are currently being made, Yaana comes as a whiff of fresh air. Featuring her three daughters in the lead, director Vijayalakshmi Singh succeeds in creating an amazing blend of breezy romance, and friendship.

The film asks us to find ourselves by escaping the normal, and speaks to the hidden explorer in all of us. The story revolves around Maya (Vaibhavi), Anjali (Vaisiri), and Nandini (Vainidhi), who are all in their late teens. Due to different circumstances, each of them reaches a point of frustration and decides to flee from her routine life. The trio bump into each other, find that their wavelengths match, and go on a road trip to Goa, through Chelakere and Hubballi. The journey proves to be an interesting learning experience and makes them introspect on life. It rejuvenates them and trains them to live life in such a way that balances relationships, allows them to be themselves, and do what they love.

The clarity of  Vijayalakshmi on the current young generation's lifestyles, their swift decision making, thirst for adventure, and the battle between their heart and mind, is evident throughout the film. She also blends in family values with the script, thus making it relatable to all ages.

Even though the lead trio plays the role of friends, their sibling bond is quite evident. However, though their performances are impressive enough for debutants, they do need to work on their acting skills. Out of the three girls, Vainidhi's looks and acting reminds us the most of her mother. 

Director Suni's dialogues keep the mood of the film light. The background score by Anoop Seelin, the youthful songs by Joshua Sridhar, and the magnificent cinematography by Karm Chawla all add to the charm.

Yaana is an endearing film that mirrors the lifestyle of today's youngsters and one that will give them the push to come out of heartbreak and depression.
