The movie was originally entitled 'Kaynaat'. Ajay Devgn was the first choice of Karan (Salman Khan). In the same year, SRK and Kajol gave another blockbuster 'Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge'. The super hit song 'jaati hoon mein' was actually a rejected tune as Rajesh roshan found it as not perfect & incomplete song. Mamta Kulkarni claimed that Shah Rukh and Salman ganged up on her and kept making jokes about her. Shah Rukh denied this and said Mamta was only looking for publicity. While Aamir loved the script and thought it would be a super-hit, he did not connect with his role and therefore declined it. Nagma was originally considered for the role of Bindiya (Mamta Kulkarni). Armaan Kohli was signed for Shahrukh Khan's role along with Salman Khan in the film but due to some unknown reasons he opted out from the film at last minute Shahrukh Khan replaced him later. Jaati Hoon Main had a remix cover version in the album Love 2 Love by 2Kool. This was in 1995. The film received positive reviews from critics and grossed ₹640 million ($20 million), emerging as a 'blockbuster' The lyrics for all the songs were penned by Indeeva. The film's writing credits went to Sachin Bhowmick, Ravi Kapoor, and Anwar Khan. Karan Arjun was the second-highest-grossing Indian film of 1995, after Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. The song Jai Kaali sampled Easy 17 song 'Its Allright'. The film was made on a budget of Rs 60 million.
