It's been eight years since Dulquer Salmaan made his acting debut, and on the occasion of the actor's birthday, we look at eight performances that we loved.
Second Show: Dulquer made a strong impression with his confident debut in Second Show, in which he played a cocky yet charming thug rising through the ranks. He couldn't have asked for a better start.
Mahanati: In this film based on the life of yesteryear actor Savithri, Dulquer essayed the role of Gemini Ganeshan. The film proved that the actor can be good at playing not-so-likeable figures too.
Kali: As a young man tormented by anger management issues, Dulquer is nicely complemented by Sai Pallavi as the wife trying to mend her husband's ways.
Charlie: A film that utilised Dulquer's charisma to the fullest, Charlie is one of those films that one reaches for when going through the blues. He was complemented by Parvathy Thiruvoth's acting.
Kammattipadam: In this gangster epic, Dulquer's character, though reminiscent of the one he played in Second Show, engages us with a performance that occasionally evoked Mammootty's earlier roles.
Solo: Despite some of its shortcomings, Solo is notable for Dulquer's convincing portrayal of four different characters of varying qualities in four different stories.
Vikramadithyan: A feel-good tale of friendships and problematic parents, Dulquer played a thief's son who is determined to not let his circumstances get in the way of his dreams.
Ustad Hotel: This is not only one of the best films ever made about food, but also a heartwarming tale of the transformative power of strong bonds formed between people of two different generations.
