Disney's live-action films: Bringing old-school characters to life with modern technology
With Disney's The Lion King on the cusp of its release, we look back at seven of the most successful live-action remakes from the franchise along with some interesting facts
Lion King (1994 & 2019): James Earl Jones, Hans Zimmer, Elton John and Tim Rice are the only people who reprise their respective roles in the new film
Aladdin (1992 & 2019): Will Smith was originally reluctant on taking up the role of Genie but later admitted that he found a way to pay homage to Robin Williams by making the role his own
Dumbo (1941 & 2019): Whenever an actor cursed on set, they had to put money in a jar. At the end of shoot, the total was given to charity. Allegedly, Colin Farrell was the worst offender
Beauty and the Beast (1991 & 2017): Ryan Gosling was offered the role of the Beast, but turned it down to appear in La La Land instead
Jungle Book (1967 & 2016): The film released in India on April 8, a week ahead of its U.S. debut, to pay tribute to the Indian environment of the movie and novel.
Cindrella (1950 & 2015): Emma Watson was the first choice to play the lead, but she turned it down, later deciding to play Belle in Beauty and the Beast
Alice in Wonderland (1951 & 2010): Johnny Depp, who likes an 'obstacle' to overcome in his projects admitted that acting in front of a green screen was 'exhausting'
