Close to two months after its release in theatres, Samuthirakani and Gautham Vasudev Menon's latest film Carmeni Selvam is all set to make its OTT premiere.
Carmeni Selvam revolves around Selvam (Samuthirakani), a driver, and his wife Shanthi (Lakshmi Priyaa Chandramouli), a street food vendor, who struggle to make ends meet as a lower-middle-class family. Pressured by financial hardships, Shanthi believes they need more money to improve their lives, while a once-content Selvam gradually turns greedy. The film explores how their pursuit of financial stability leads to moral compromises, instability, and a life stripped of integrity.
The cast also features Abhinaya, Karthik Kumar, Badava Gopi, Madhumitha, Arjunan, Sankara Narayan V, Haritha Parakod, Kothandam, and Karan Chakravarthi. Upon release on April 3, the film was met with mixed as well as positive reviews.
An excerpt from our CE review of the film read, "Carmeni Selvam is a film that delivers its messages in compound interest. It reminds us that our wealth-related choices are often influenced by society. It makes us think about whether we truly need everything we pay EMIs for. It sends home the message that sometimes wanting to make money in a short period of time may make us turn in the direction of immorality."
Carmeni Selvam is produced by Arun Rangarajulu, with Sree Saravanan as a creative producer. Pathway Productions is the banner backing the film. In a first, music for the film is composed by Musicloud Studio and Technologies company. The rest of the technical crew for the film includes Yuvraj Dakshan as the director of photography, Jagan RV and Dinesh S as the editors, and Shankar as the production designer.
Carmeni Selvam will premiere on Prime Video from June 3 onwards.
