A month after it hit theatres, Bharath's latest investigative thriller Kaalidas 2 is gearing up for its OTT premiere. The sequel, which hit theatres eight years after the first part, also saw the return of director Sri Senthil.
Kaalidas 2 follows Inspector Kaalidas (Bharath), along with a fresh-off-the-academy IPS officer played by Bhavani Sre, as they investigate the residents of an apartment complex after a four-year-old child goes missing. Steve (Ajay Karthi) is the prime suspect, but the story then slowly spirals into a complex web of plot threads.
Kaalidas 2 also saw the return of Sangita Madhavan to Tamil cinema after 26 years. Her last Tamil release was Kann Thirandhu Paaramma (2000). Apart from Sangita, the cast of the sequel includes Prakash Raj and Kishore in key roles along with Suresh Menon, Anant Nag, Raja Ravindra, Abarnathi, Singam Jayavel, and DM Karthik in supporting characters.
Upon release on April 3, Kaalidas 2 was met with mixed reviews. An excerpt from our CE review of the film read, "Clockwork is the perfect metaphor for Kaalidas 2’s writing because even though it all fits together, the story still feels mechanical. What does all the nifty clockwork amount to? It does look pretty seeing all the gears turn and grind with mechanical precision, but it is not a clock; the arms aren’t pointing to anything. With more focus on an overarching theme or on the pursuit of one, Kaalidas 2 could have become a story with heart and soul, rather than just an engaging assembly of scenes."
It was produced by Dr N Yogeshwaran along with Five Star Senthil under their Sky Pictures banner. Director Sri Senthil has directed the film from a screenplay by Arvind Anand. Sam CS had composed music for Kaalidas 2, with lyrics penned by Mohanraj. The crew of the film also includes Suresh Bala as the director of photography, Bhuvan Srinivasan as the editor, and G Durairaj as the production designer.
Kaalidas 2 is set to premiere on Sun NXT OTT platform on May 12.
