Earlier, we reported about the development of an action thriller, titled TYGO, set in the same universe as Netflix's Extraction. The latest development about the Netflix film is that production on it has been wrapped, the makers announced on Thursday. The film stars Don Lee, Squid Game actor Lee Jin-uk, and Lalisa Manobal of Blackpink and The White Lotus fame in her feature debut. The film is directed by Lee Sang-yong from a screenplay by Cha Woo-jin, written based on the Russo brothers and Ande Parks' graphic novel, Ciudad. It is produced by the Russo Brothers under their AGBO banner, alongside the banner's Angela Russo-Otstot, Michael Disco and Albert J Kim; Don Lee himself under Big Punch Pictures; Chris S Lee of B and C Group; and Won-ki Choi of Nova Film. The film marks the ninth collaborative venture between AGBO and Netflix.
According to Netflix, "TYGO brings a distinctly Korean identity into the global Extraction universe." It follows Don Lee's titular character, an erstwhile soldier who becomes a mercenary and goes off on a mission to avenge something through the criminal underworld of Korea following an operation that goes awry.
At the time of its announcement, the film's producer Angela Russo-Otstot said, "We’re thrilled to explore the world of Extraction through a South Korean lens, teaming up with legendary action star Don Lee and visionary director Lee Sang-yong, whose dynamic choreography exemplifies the world-class craft of Korean cinema." The film reunites Lee Sang-yong with Don Lee after collaborations on The Roundup and The Roundup: No Way Out. On the other hand, Lee Jin-uk and Lalisa Manobal said that they are honoured to join the project.
There is also an Extraction-based series in development, starring Omar Sy, Natalie Dormer and Boyd Holbrook.
