After a blockbuster run, Vishnu Vishal and Aishwarya Lekshmi's Gatta Kusthi 2 is heading to OTT platform Netflix. Directed by Chella Ayyavu who returned to helm the sequel after the 2022 hit, the sports comedy entertainer collected over Rs 55 crore globally in its three-week-long run and received generally positive reviews from audiences and critics.
Gatta Kusthi 2 sees the return Aishwarya Lekshmi as Keerthi and Vishnuu as Veera. In the present day, Veera keeps his promise to support Keerthi's wrestling career, becoming a house husband while she pursues her dreams. Their differing parenting styles and concerns over their daughter Mathi Malar's future strain their marriage, forcing Keerthi to sacrifice her career. As their relationship falls apart and divorce looms, the family must confront what truly matters.
Kaali Venkat, Karunaas and Munishkanth have reprised their roles along with Lizie Antony, Gajaraj and Sreeja Ravi. Ramya Krishnan and Yogi Babu are the newcomers to the sequel. Karunakaran, Mokksha and child actor Zara Zyanna are also part of the film.
Released on July 3, Gatta Kusthi 2 emerged as a major profitable venture for Vishnuu who produced it along with Ishari K Ganesh of Vels Film International. Vishnuu also recently expressed his happiness on the film doing well in the B and C centres of the state and revealed that it was his first Rs 50 crore-grossing film.
An excerpt from our CE review of the film reads, "Gatta Kusthi 2 comes together well mainly because the screenplay has long gags that you warm up to. Yes, there are moments when you are worried if the one-dimensional characters might become an excuse to derail the call for feminism. And yet, at the same time, you might look around to see if anyone is judging you for laughing out too loud. Gatta Kusthi 2 smartly oscillates between both ends."
Gatta Kusthi 2 will be available to stream on Netflix from July 31 onwards.
