After a long wait, Francesca Kilmartin/Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd) is all set to re-enter society in Bridgerton season 5. While her buried feelings for her late husband John Kilmartin's (Victor Alli) cousin Michaela Sterling (Masali Baduza) is all set to resurface and create a furore, new members are also set to make an entry into the ton to brew further drama in the pot.
The makers have announced that Tega Alexander, Jacqueline Boatswain and Gemma Knight Jones are all joining the popular regency-era drama for the upcoming season which began filming recently.
Alexander (The Sandman, MobLand) will play Christopher Anderson, the son of Lord Anderson (Daniel Francis) who plays Violet Bridgerton's (Ruth Gemmel) love interest. His character is described as "a Regency-era Casanova who could give the Bridgerton bachelors a run for their money. Yet behind his cheeky facade lies a current of self-doubt that threatens to unravel him. The son of Lord Anderson will make his mark on society, one way or another."
On the other hand, Jacqueline Boatswain (Carnival Row, The Blame) will play Helen Stirling, Michaela's mother. "Mrs. Stirling is the very source of her bold daughter’s spirit. Like any mama, Helen seeks to guide — and occasionally push — her daughter through London's social season, with equal measures of vivaciousness and tough love," reads her character introduction.
Gemma Knight Jones (Mobland, Been So Long) will portray Lady Elizabeth Ashworth, Michaela's old friend. She will serve as Michaela’s confidante and guide to London. According to the makers, beneath her playful charm, "lies a grounded realist who is wise to the unspoken rules of society."
As reported earlier, the season will unfold as Francesca re-enters the marriage mart two years after Lord Kilmartin's unprecedented and tragic death. "While Francesca is determined to follow a practical path, she’ll begin to question her resolve when John’s cousin Michaela returns to London to tend to the Kilmartin estate. Francesca must decide if she wants to stick to her pragmatic intentions or pursue the inner passions that Michaela stokes," reads the description from Netflix.
Bridgerton season 4, which aired in two parts in January and February, saw the marriage of Sophie Baek/Gun (Yerin Ha) and Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson).
