Only Murders in the Building is set to solve murders across the pond. Following a California detour in Season 4, the hit Hulu comedy is gearing up to take its next mystery international, with London likely serving as the main backdrop for Season 6.
Although Hulu has yet to officially renew the show, a sixth season is widely expected, given the series’ consistent acclaim and devoted fanbase. The new chapter is set to mark the first time the Emmy-winning comedy steps outside the United States.
With its centuries-old architecture and gothic allure, the U.K. capital seems a fitting setting for amateur sleuths Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short), and Mabel (Selena Gomez), whose beloved Arconia already evokes the charm of a European landmark.
The potential move to London has been subtly teased in the Season 5 finale, which debuted Tuesday on JioHotstar in India. Season 5 ended with Charles, Mabel and Mora finding Cinda (Tina Fey), whose podcast they first began hearing together, dead just outside the Arconia, teasing her demise as the mystery for the next season. Her death is linked to a mysterious case in London.
The show’s transatlantic jump places it just a train ride away from another acclaimed murder mystery series, HBO’s The White Lotus, which is heading to France for its upcoming fourth season.
Season 5 of Only Murders in the Building centres on the death of the Arconia’s long-time doorman, Lester, pulling the trio into a case involving an illegal casino, mafia connections, and a powerful circle of billionaires played by Renée Zellweger, Christoph Waltz, and Logan Lerman. The latest installment also features Bobby Cannavale, Téa Leoni, Keegan-Michael Key, Jermaine Fowler, Beanie Feldstein, and Dianne Wiest.
Returning favourites include Michael Cyril Creighton as Howard, Jackie Hoffman as Uma, Da’Vine Joy Randolph as Detective Donna Williams, Meryl Streep as Loretta, Richard Kind as Vince Fish, and Nathan Lane as Teddy Dimas. The series, co-created by Steve Martin and showrunner John Hoffman, is executive produced by Martin, Short, Gomez, Dan Fogelman, Jess Rosenthal, Ben Smith, and JJ Philbin. 20th Television produces the show.
