Baapu gets an OTT premiere
Brahma-starrer Baapu, which was theatrically released on February 21, had its OTT premiere on Friday. The dark comedy satire began streaming on JioHotstar.
Directed by Dayakar Reddy, Baapu is set in rural Telangana, following a farmer’s family dealing with financial and emotional hardships. While Sudhakar Reddy plays the family head, Brahmaji played his son burdened by debt. The film also featured Avasarala Srinivas, Dhanya Balakrishna, and Aamani in the primary cast. RR Dhruvan composed the music, while Vasu Pendem helmed the cinematography. Editing is handled by Aalayam Anil.
In our review for the film, we noted, “Baapu is a film that could have been extraordinary had it trusted its own cynicism. Daya constructs a world that is primed for a ruthless, pitch-black satire, but then hesitates, afraid of alienating our audiences with the film’s ambitious surgical grim. The result is a film that engages but never fully satisfies.”
Baapu was produced by Raju and CH Bhanu Prasad Reddy under Comrade Film Factory.
