SP Shakthivel's recent film Alangu, which was received well in theatres, has arrived on OTT. Starring Gunanidhi in the lead role, the film is currently streaming on Prime Video.
Apart from Gunanidhi, the film, based on true events that took place near the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border, also starred Chemban Vinod and Kaali Venkat. The title was inspired by the dog breed Alangu, which has connections to Chola emperor Rajaraja the Great's war dogs. Appani Sarath and Sreerekha were cast in supporting roles.
Shakthivel is well-known for writing and directing films such as Urumeen (2015) and Payanigal Gavanikkavum (2022). He was associated with Manikandan's Good Night (2023) as the film's creative producer.
Upon release on December 26, the film garnered positive reviews from audience and critics. Our CE review of the film read, "Alangu avoids some of the major pitfalls and cliches of the genre, such as excessive melodrama and repetition. Sakthivel effectively conveys the theme of violence and retribution through subtle symbolism."
Alangu was produced by D Sabareesh and SA Sangamithra, who earlier collaborated on the GV Prakash-Gautham Menon film Selfie.
Alangu is shot in the forest locations of Attapadi, Idukki, Anaikatti, Kambam, and Theni. The film had cinematography by S Pandikumar, music by Ajesh, and editing by San Lokesh.
