Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi's latest courtroom drama is all set to premiere on OTT soon. Written by Reshu Nath, the film, which was directed by Suparn S Varma, was praised for its sensitive portrayal of real-life events, engaging storyline and realistic courtroom proceedings. According to reports, the film is set to stream on Netflix from January 2, 2026.
The film is inspired by the Supreme Court’s 1985 judgement in the case of Mohd. Ahmed Khan vs. Shah Bano Begum, where the court ruled that a divorced Muslim woman is entitled to maintenance under the law. Ahmed Khan, a prominent lawyer, had divorced his wife, Shah Bano after 14 years of marriage and abandoned her along with their children, which made her to file a petition in court for giving her maintenance under section 125 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Haq is a fictionalized and dramatised version of events stated in the book titled Bano: Bharat ki Beti written by Jigna Vora.
Apart from Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi, the film also stars Vartika Singh, Danish Husain, Sheeba Chadha and Aseem Hattangady in pivotal roles. The film was released on November 7 to positive reviews from audiences and critics.
Our CE review of the film read, "In the recent cinema landscape, inundated with the likes of The Taj Story (2025) and The Sabarmati Report (2024), courtroom thrillers have become shouting matches either trying to peddle an agenda or villainise an entire community. Haq, however, operates from a place of introspection and restraint. Islam, as a religion, is not looked at from a reductionist lens. Thankfully, no male reformist turns up to be Shazia’s savior. The reform comes from Bano herself as she quotes the Quran and teaches a thing or two about Shariat to conservative maulvis."
Haq was presented by Junglee Pictures and produced by Vineet Jain, Vishal Gurnani, Juhi Parekh Mehta and Harman Baweja.
