Rio Raj's latest film Sweetheart!, directed by Swineeth S Sukumar, is gearing up for its OTT release. JioHotstar took to their social media handles to announce that the romantic drama will release on their platform on April 11. Sweetheart! stars Gopika Ramesh as the female lead.
Upon release on March 14, the film received mixed to negative reviews. Our CE review of the film read, "The characterisation is downright sketchy. We know very little about Manu and Vasu that piques our interest, other than the fact that the latter does not want to become a parent, unlike the former. The trope of parental neglect channelling the angst of a male lead is overused in a romantic drama. Sweetheart! goes one step further with a melodramatic passage explaining how the absence of his mother since childhood contributes to Vasu’s decision to not have children."
Renji Panicker, Redin Kingsley, Arunachaleswaran PA, and Fouziee were part of the supporting cast of Sweetheart. It marked the Tamil acting debut of Renji Panicker, who is also a well-known screenwriter and director in Malayalam cinema.
Yuvan Shankar Raja produced the film through his banner YSR Films; it was his fourth venture as a producer. Besides acting in the film, Rio Raj also served as a lyricist, alongside Madhan Karky, Vignesh Ramakrishna, Arivu, MC Sanna, Kelithee, and Gana Francis.
The technical crew of Sweetheart! had cinematography by Balaji Subramanyam, editing by Tamil Arasan, and art direction by Siva Sankar.
