Netflix announced a limited series adaptation of the John Steinbeck novel East of Eden that has been in the works since 2022. The seven-episode series will be adapted by Zoe Kazan, Elia's granddaughter, who is known for Clickbait (2021), The Plot Against America (2020), and The Deuce (2017-19). It will star Florence Pugh, Christopher Abbott, Mike Faist, and Hoon Lee. Pugh will also be an executive producer.

According to Netflix, the limited series follows the "multi-generational Trask family saga explored from the perspective of the standout female character Cathy Ames, played by Pugh." Kazan also serves as executive producer and co-showrunner, along with Jeb Stuart. The first four episodes will be directed by Garth Davis, while Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre will direct the last three. The series will also be co-produced by Fifth Season and Anonymous Content.

East of Eden was also adapted as a feature film in 1955 by Elia Kazan, and it marked James Dean's debut. Pugh, who was seen this year in Dune: Part Two, also has We Live in Time, opposite Andrew Garfield, in the pipeline.
