Netflix has picked up additional episodes of 3 Body Problem to conclude the story which was left in a cliffhanger on season one. The series hails from creators David Benioff, DB Weiss, and Alexander Woo, who are returning to write, produce and direct the extended episodes.

There is no confirmation on how many seasons or episode the series will have to complete the story. Previously, the showrunners hoped to get a total of four seasons to adapt the three books in Cixin Liu’s trilogy.

“We’re thrilled that we get to tell this story through to its epic conclusion,” the showrunners said in a statement. “Ever since we read the last page of Cixin Liu’s magnificent trilogy, we hoped we’d be able to bring the audience to the end of the universe with us. Here we go!”

Inspired by novel The Three-Body Problem, the series follows the journey of Ye Wenjie (portrayed by Zine Tseng initially and then by Rosalind Chao), a young woman who goes to the depths of space and time to make a fateful decision during China's Cultural Revolution in the 1960s.

When the laws of nature inexplicably unravel before their eyes, a close-knit group of brilliant scientists join forces with an unflinching detective to confront the greatest threat in humanity’s history.

The Netflix show, which had its first season released on March 21, stars Jovan Adepo as Saul Durand, John Bradley as Jack Rooney, Rosalind Chao as Ye Wenjie, Liam Cunningham as Thomas Wade and Eiza González as Auggie Salazar. It also features Jess Hong, Marlo Kelly, Alex Sharp, Sea Shimooka, Zine Tseng, Saamer Usmani, Benedict Wong and Jonathan Pryce.

Apart from Benioff, Weiss, and Woo, Rian Johnson, Ram Bergman and Nena Rodrigue have also served as executive producers on 3 Body Problem.
