Amazon MGM Studios announced that a sequel to A Simple Favor is coming. The team behind the first part which includes Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively are set to reprise their roles in A Simple Favor 2, with Paul Feig returning to direct. The highly anticipated sequel is a co-production with Lionsgate and follows the studio’s 2018 release of A Simple Favor, which was a critical and commercial success.

The script, which is based on characters by Darcy Bell, was written by Jessica Sharzer, who wrote the first film, with revisions by Laeta Kalogridis and Paul Feig.

Based on the 2017 novel of the same name, A Simple Favor told the story of a widowed single mother named Stephanie, played by Kendrick. Working as a vlogger in Connecticut, she looks enviously upon her best friend, Emily (Lively). Emily has a successful career, a loving family and a glamorous lifestyle. However, things turn awry when Emily mysteriously disappears one day, causing Stephanie to launch her own investigation into her friend’s past, finding more than a few surprises along the way.

The sequel will see the return of Stephanie Smothers (Anna Kendrick) and Emily Nelson (Blake Lively) as they head to the beautiful island of Capri, Italy, for Emily’s extravagant wedding to a rich Italian businessman. Along with the glamorous guests, expect murder and betrayal to RSVP for a wedding with more twists and turns than the road from the Marina Grande to the Capri town square.

Apart from Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively, Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Joshua Satine, Ian Ho and Kelly McCormack will also be reprising their roles in the film. A Simple Favor 2 is expected to start shooting this spring and will be out on Prime Video.

Kendrick appeared in this year’s Hulu film Self Reliance and is set to star in her feature directorial debut with Woman of the Hour hitting Netflix this fall. Lively stars opposite Justin Baldoni in Sony’s big-screen adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel It Ends With Us, hitting theaters in June. Feig, who directed the 2022 movie The School for Good and Evil for Netflix, has wrapped filming on Amazon’s action-comedy feature Grand Death Lotto starring John Cena, Awkwafina and Simu Liu.
