Bhumi Pednekar to headline serial-killer thriller; Rana Daggubatti to host his own celebrity chat show

Amazon Prime Video announced a slate of upcoming films and web series at an event in Mumbai recently. The lineup includes new original series like the Indian segment of the global spy series Citadel, created by Raj & DK and starring Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu; Vijay Varma starrer Matka King, helmed by acclaimed director Nagraj Manjule, and a celebrity talk show hosted by Rana Daggubatti, among others. The key titles in the film slate includes Subedaar starring Anil Kapoor and Be Happy, a feel-good film featuring Abhishek Bachchan.

Original Series

1. Citadel: Honey Bunny (Hindi)

Helmed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K., the Indian segment of the global spy series CitadelHoney Bunny fuses a gritty spy action thriller with the allure of a love story, all set against the vibrant tapestry of the '90s. The show will star Varun Dhawan, Samantha Ruth Prabhu as leads. It will also feature Kay Kay Menon, Simran, Soham Majumdar, Shivankit Singh Parihar, Kashvi Majmundar, Saquib Saleem, and Sikandar Kher. The series has been written by Sita R. Menon along with Raj & DK.

2. Call Me Bae (Hindi)

Ananya Panday will star as Bae, a billionaire-fashionista who is disowned by her family owing to a scandal. The description of the upcoming series reads: “Downsized from heiress to hustler, Bae discovers that her most valuable assets aren’t her diamonds, but her street smarts and style.” The series has been created by Ishita Moitra (screenwriter: Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani). It is directed by Collin D’Cunha and written by Moitra, along with Samina Motlekar, and Rohit Nair. The show also features Vir Das, Gurfateh Pirzada, Varun Sood, Vihaan Samat, Muskkkaan Jaferi, Niharika Lyra Dutt, Lisa Mishra, and Mini Mathur.

3. Fallout

Based on one of the greatest video game series of all time, Fallout is the story of haves and have-nots in a world in which there’s almost nothing left to have. Two-hundred years after the apocalypse, the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind—and are shocked to discover an incredibly complex, gleefully weird, and highly violent universe waiting for them. The show stars Ella Purnell, Walton Goggins, Aaron Moten, Moisés Arias, Kyle MacLachlan and Sarita Choudhury, among others. It comes from Kilter Films and executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy.

4. Matka King (Hindi)

Vijay Varma will star as the titular Matka King in Nagraj Manjule’s upcoming series. The official description of the series reads: “A fictional tale set in 1960s Mumbai, of an enterprising cotton trader who craves legitimacy and respect starts a new gambling game dubbed ‘Matka’, which takes the city by storm and democratizes a terrain previously reserved for the rich and elite.” The show has been written by Abhay Koranne along with Manjule.

5. Bandwaale (Hindi)

Shalini Pandey will make her OTT debut with the series Bandwale. She plays Mariam, a young poetess, who finds herself trapped in a sleepy town where every young girl's future lies in wedlock. She hopes to find freedom by uploading her poetry on the internet with the help of her band of misfits - a brass band singer (played by lyricist Swanand Kirkire) and a new age DJ (played by Zahaan Kapoor). The series has been created by Ankur Tiwari and Kirkire. It is directed by Akshat Verma and Tiwari. The show also stars Sanjana Dipu, Ashish Vidhyarthi, and Anupama Kumar.

6. Daldal (Hindi)

The show will see Bhumi Pednekar as DCP Rita Ferreira on the hunt for a serial killer. She is haunted by the guilt of her past and dealing with the demons of her present. The series is based on the book Bhendi Bazaar by Vish Dhamija. It is directed by Amrit Raj Gupta with screenplay by Sreekanth Agneeaswaran and Rohan D'Souza. The dialogues are by Hussain Haidry.

7. Andhera (Hindi)

In the shadow of Mumbai's shimmering skyline, a sinister force hunts the living. In this tale of urban horror, a fearless cop and a haunted medical student must take on this living darkness to avert impending doom. The series stars Priya Bapat, Karanvir Malhotra, Prajakta Koli, Surveen Chawla, Vatsal Sheth, Parvin Dabas, and Pranay Pachauri. It has been created by Gaurav Desai, directed by Raaghav Dar and written by Desai and Dar along with Karan Anshuman, Chintan Sarda, Akshat Ghildial and Karmanya Ahuja.

8. Daring Partners (Hindi)

Tamannaah Bhatia and Diana Penty play two best-friends who embark on a journey as partners in an alcohol start-up. Created by Nishant Nayak, Mithun Gangopadhyay, the series has been directed by Archit Kumar and written by Nandini Gupta and Aarsh Vora along with Gangopadhyay. It is backed by Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment.

9. Dil Dosti Dilemma (Hindi)

Asmara's summer takes an unexpected turn when she is sent to her grandparents' neighborhood as a form of punishment. To maintain appearances with her friends, she pretends to be in Canada. Amidst the struggles of a traditional setting, she learns new life lessons. Directed by Debbie Rao, the series stars Anushka Sen, Tanvi Azmi, Shishir Sharma, Suhasini Mulay, Khush Jotwani, Vishakha Pandey, Revathi Pillai, and Elisha Mayor.

10. Dupahiya (Hindi)

In a village that is on the cusp of celebrating 25 years of being crime-free, chaos ensues when a coveted motorbike gets stolen. With the silver jubilee trophy, a wedding, and the pride of the villagers at stake, what follows is a journey to retrieve the bike before it's too late. The show stars Gajraj Rao, Renuka Shahane, Bhuvan Arora, Sparsh Shrivastava, Shivani Raghuvanshi, and Yashpal Sharma. It is directed by Sonam Nair and written by Avinash Dwivedi and Chirag Garg.

11. Gulkanda Tales (Hindi)

Pankaj Tripathi, Kunal Kemmu and Patralekhaa will star in a period comedy, created by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K. The show is directed by Rahi Anil Barve and written by Mitesh Shah, Raj and DK, and Barve.

12. Khauf (Hindi)

A young woman moves into a hostel room in Delhi, unaware of its dark history of violence and hidden secrets. Grappling with the shadows of her troubled past, she finds herself entangled in a struggle against unexplained forces that manifest both within the confines of the room and outside. The series stars Monika Panwar, Rajat Kapoor, Abhishek Chauhan, Geetanjali Kulkarni, and Shilpa Shukla. It is written and created by Smita Singh and directed by Pankaj Kumar and Surya Balakrishnan.

13. Rangeen (Hindi)

Confronted with an uncomfortable truth about his marriage, a middle-aged husband takes an unusual path, forcing him to re-evaluate his ideas of manhood and morality. The show stars Vineet Kumar Singh, Rajshri Deshpande and Taaruk Raina. It is created by Amardeep Galsin and Amir Rizvi and directed by Kopal Naithani and Pranjal Dua.

14. The Revolutionaries (Hindi)

The story of young Indian freedom fighters who believed that armed resistance was crucial to ending the British Raj. The show is an adaptation of the book by the same name by Sanjeev Sanyal. It is created by Nikkhil Advani.

15. In Transit (Hindi)

Directed by Ayesha Dood and backed by Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, In Transit is a documentary series that explores the lives of trans and non-binary individuals navigating love, identity, and the boundaries of gender in a uniquely Indian way.

16. Ma Kasum (Hindi)

Starring Mona Singh, Angira Dhar, Mihir Ahuja, and chef Ranveer Brar, Ma Kasum is about a 19-year-old math genius' ultimate quest is to create an algorithm to find the ‘perfect match’ for his vivacious single mother. Despite his faith in the sanctity of numbers, he begins to realize that nothing in life is absolute - when it comes to human relationships, every equation is a ‘work-in-progress’. The series is created by Samir Kohli, Prasad Kadam and Vinay Joshi and written by Kadam, along with Vinay Choudary, Neha Sharma, Nicholas Kharkongor, Ravinder Randhawa, Sumrit Shahi, Akanksha Seda.

17. The Great Indian Code (Hindi)

Backed by The Viral Fever (TVF), this is a story of a bunch of humble and visionary middle-class engineers led by a meek looking gentleman in the eighties to create a company that led the biggest wealth generating industry India had ever seen: the IT industry. The series has been helmed by Deepak Kumar Mishra (Panchayat) and written by Shubham Sharma.

18. The Tribe (Hindi)

Ananya Panday’s cousin Alanna Panday will feature in a series on Indian influencers who have been set up to crack global fame in Los Angeles. Created by Aneesha Baig and directed by Omkar Potdar, the show will also feature Alaviaa Jaaferi, Srushti Porey, Alfia Jafry, Aryaana Gandhi, and Hardik Zaveri.

19. Waack Girls (Hindi)

Six Kolkata girls create Waack Girls, a dance group in a city unfamiliar with the dance form of waacking. Led by Ishani, an expert waacker and managed by Lopa, this lighthearted story is filled with music, dance, comedy, and drama. The series features Mekhola Bose, Rytasha Rathore, Barun Chanda, Anasua Chowdhury, Chrisann Pereira, Priyam Saha, Ruby Sah, and Achintya Bose. It is created and directed by Sooni Taraporevala and written by Taraporevala, along with Iyanah Bativala and Ronny Sen.

20. Ziddi Girls (Hindi)

Whether they like it or not, the lives of five self-absorbed, couldn’t-care-less Gen Z freshers are about to change as they enter the illustrious corridors of Matilda House College. Deep friendships form over a year of mistakes, heartbreaks, and self-discovery, forcing them out of their comfort zones as they put themselves between their college and the forces that threaten it. The show will star Simran, Revathy and Nandita Das, along with Nandish Sandhu, Anupriya Caroli, Atiya Tara Nayak, Ayushi Rawat, Zaina Ali, and Umang Bhadana. It is created by Rangita Pritish Nandy and Ishita Pritish Nandy and directed by Shonali Bose, Neha Veena Sharma, and Vasant Nath.

21. Follow Karlo Yaar (Hindi)

The show is based on paparazzi favourite Uorfi Javed and how she balances fame while also keeping her dysfunctional family together. It is directed by Sandeep Kukreja.

22. The Rana Connection (Telugu)

Actor Rana Daggubatti will be hosting his own talk show featuring his friends and contemporaries from Indian cinema.

23. Arabia Kadali (Telugu)

A fictional suspense drama series that revolves around a group of fishermen from rival villages who inadvertently trespass into international waters and find themselves imprisoned in a foreign jail. The series will star Satya Dev and Anandhi. It is written by Krish Jagarlamudi, Dr. Chintakindi Srinivas Rao, Surya Kumar and Sunil D.

24. Gangs Kuruthi Punal (Tamil)

In this fictional period action drama, a tale of revenge fuels a bloody power struggle within the first organized gang of a port city. Replete with smugglers, dealers, pornographers, film stars, aristocrats, and politicians, this series weaves a narrative of ambition, betrayal, and a relentless struggle for power. The show stars Sathyaraj, Ashok Selvan, Nasser, Nimisha Sajayan, Ritika Singh, and Easwari Rao. It is directed by Noah.

25. Inspector Rishi (Tamil)

In this supernatural horror series, skeptical crime branch Inspector Rishi Nandhan investigates a string of peculiar murders intertwined with supernatural occurrences. As he unravels the mysteries, he confronts both the chilling crimes and his own inner turmoil. The series stars Naveen Chandra, Sunainaa, Kanna Ravi, Malini Jeevarathnam, Srikrishna Dayal, and Kumaravel. It is written and directed by Nandhini JS.     

26. Snakes and Ladders (Tamil)

Kartik Subbaraj serves as a creative producer on a series about four reckless kids, who while trying to cover up an accident, find themselves caught in dangerous situations - chased by cops, dim-witted thugs, and their own bad choices. The show stars Naveen Chandra, Muthu Kumar, Nandaa, Srinda, Manoj Bharathiraja, Ramachandran, Sreejith Ravi, Samrit Surya, Rageshwar Surya, Kumar Tharun and Sasha Bharen. It is directed by Bharath Muralidharan, Ashok Veerappan, and Kamala Alchemis.

Original Films

27. Subedaar (Hindi)

Anil Kapoor stars in an action drama, where he plays Subedaar Arjun Singh, who is grappling with civilian life, navigating a strained relationship with his daughter, and societal dysfunction. The man who once fought for the nation must now fight enemies within to protect his home and family. The film is directed by Suresh Triveni.

28. Be Happy (Hindi)

Abhishek Bachchan will star in the upcoming feel-good film by Remo D’Souza. The film’s official description reads: “A poignant tale that unfolds the journey of a single father and his talented daughter who aspire to perform on the country's biggest dance reality show. Be Happy highlights the extraordinary lengths a father will go to fulfill his daughter’s dreams and find true happiness.” The film will also star Nora Fatehi, Nasser, Inayat Verma, and Johny Lever.

29. Chhorii 2 (Hindi)

Sakshi (Nushrratt Bharuccha) must rescue her seven-year-old daughter from being sacrificed by an evil cult to satisfy Pradhan Ji, their resident leader, while fighting societal superstitions and the horror that continues to haunt her and young women around her. The film, directed by Vishal Furia, also stars Soha Ali Khan.

30. Supermen of Malegaon (Hindi)

The film follows the journey of an aspiring filmmaker as he bands together his group of friends to make a film for his small town of Malegaon. Starring Adarsh Gourav, Vineet Kumar Singh, and Shashank Arora, the film is directed by Reema Kagti and written by Varun Grover along with her.

31. The Mehta Boys (Hindi)

Boman Irani directs a film about a father and son, at odds with each other, who find themselves compelled to spend 48 hours together. It stars Irani along with Avinash Tiwary, and Shreya Chaudhary.

32. Uppu Kappu Rambu (Telugu)

In this satirical comedy, a fictional village faces an extraordinary crisis as the cemetery runs out of space. Uproarious chaos ensues as the community rallies together, finding inventive solutions to overcome this unusual predicament. The film has been directed by Ani I.V Sasi and stars Suhas Pagolu and Keerthy Suresh.

33. Cheekati Lo (Telugu)

A gripping investigative crime thriller that follows the relentless journey of a determined young woman as she unravels the disturbing truth behind a serial rapist. The film has been written by Chandra Pemmaraju.
