Grey's Anatomy to return for Season 21

Shonda Rhimes' medical drama Grey's Anatomy has been renewed for season 21 at the ABC. With the announcement of its renewal, Grey's Anatomy becomes the longest-running primetime medical drama and is the third ABC series to earn an early renewal this year.

The previous season had an ensemble cast that included Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson, James Pickens Jr, Kevin McKidd, Katerina Scorsone, Camilla Luddington, Kim Raver, and Jake Borelli. The makers are yet to reveal the cast lineup for the upcoming season. However, Ellen Pompeo, who plays Meredith Grey in the series, is expected to appear in at least four episodes of season 21. Pompeo will depart as a series regular owing to her commitment with Hulu for a limited series.

In a recent interview about the series renewal, Shonda Rhimes says, "The loyalty and love of Grey’s Anatomy fans has propelled us into a historic 21st season, and I could not be more grateful." She also praised Marinis for keeping the show "alive and compelling" with her storytelling.

Grey's Anatomy premiered in 2005 and has received a total of 38 Primetime Emmy Award nominations so far.
