Trailer of Ishaan Khatter and Mrunal Thakur-starrer Pippa out

The trailer of Ishaan Khatter headliner war-drama Pippa was unveiled by the makers on Wednesday. Produced by Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP movies and Siddharth Roy Kapur’s Roy Kapur Films, the movie has been directed by Raja Krishna Menon, known for helming Airlift (2016) and Chef (2017). The film also stars Priyanshu Painyuli, Mrunal Thakur and Soni Razdan.

Pippa is slated to premiere on Prime Video on November 10. It is based on Captain Balram Singh Mehta’s book The Burning Chaffees.

The trailer transports us to 1971. Prime Minister Indira Gandhi has declared war against Pakistan over East Bangladesh. Captain Balram Singh Mehta (Ishaan) of the 45 Cavalry Tank Squadron is part of the offensive. The film seems to trace the coming-of-age of Balram, his tumultuous relationship with elder brother Ram (Priyanshu) and how the young soldier assumed command over the squadron after their leader fell during the mission. The film is named after the amphibious war tank PT-76 (Palavushi Tanka), which was popularly known as “Pippa,” akin to an empty tin of ghee that smoothly floats on water. The trailer also shows Ishaan’s Balram manning the tank as it crosses an unruly river.

Stating that Captain Balram’s book inspired him to make the film, director Raja Krishna Menon said, “I was absolutely certain that this inspiring and lesser-known story of triumph, needed to be shared with the world. I believe we have been able to create an apt tribute to our armed forces, by bringing to life this story that is hidden in the annals of our rich history.”

Ronnie Screwvala added, “Pippa is more than a wartime movie for me. It is a salute to the Indian brave hearts.”
