Kerala government has appointed veteran actor Raveendran as the Kerala State Chalachithra Academy's chairman. Actor and activist Priyanka Nair will serve as vice-chairperson.
The government has also appointed actor Salim Hassan and Rekhachithram director Jofin T Chacko as executive committee members. The general council was reconstituted with Deepu Karunakaran, Vaikom Vijayalakshmi, M V Girish Kumar, Salim Hassan, B Rakesh, Sajeevan Anthikad, Jofin T Chacko, Zakaria, R S Panicker, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Vazhoor Jose, A Kabir, Sabu Shankar, Sherga Sandeep and Abdul Hanan as members.
The appointments come four months after the UDF government came into power. Earlier this year in May, former chairman Resul Pookutty and vice-chairperson Kukku Parameswaran resigned from their posts.
Raveendran, popularly called 'Disco Raveendran', was a prominent actor in Malayalam and Tamil during the 80s. An alumnus of the Adyar Film Institute, he is also a screenwriter, interior designer, film scholar, acting coach, social activist and film festival curator.
Priyanka Nair, a Kerala State award-winning actor, is noted for her roles in films like Vilapangalkkappuram, Ividam Swargamanu, Kumbasaaram, and Leela.
