Director Arun Anirudhan's film, starring Basil Joseph and Tovino Thomas in the lead roles, is set to have its Tamil dubbed version hit theatres this Friday. Ahead of the release of Athiradi in Tamil, actor Sivakarthikeyan shared his take on the film and expressed his excitement for Basil Joseph. Taking to his Instagram Stories space, Sivakarthikeyan wrote, "Dear brother Basil Joseph, really enjoyed Athiradi. Excited that your film is getting dubbed in Tamil for the first time and to hear you speak in Tamil."
It is worth noting that Basil Joseph played a cameo in Sivakarthikeyan's last release, Parasakthi. At a promotional event for Parasakthi in Kerala, Sivakarthikeyan broke the suspense around Basil's cameo in the film and called the latter 'a friend' whom he likes quite a lot as an actor.
Sivakarthikeyan also conveyed his best wishes to actors Tovino Thomas and Vineeth Sreenivasan and the rest of the team behind Athiradi.
Recently, the film's Malayalam version grossed more than 50 crore from theatres worldwide. Meanwhile, a Tamil trailer for the film is out.
In a recent conversation with Galatta Plus, Basil and Tovino revealed that they had writers from Tamil Nadu translate the Malayalam lines to Tamil and dubbed it in the language on their own. Not all Malayalam stars have dubbed the film in Tamil, though, at least judging by the trailer.
The makers have also made some changes to the lines to ensure that the film connects with the Tamil audience in a culturally better way. For example, in the Tamil trailer, Basil's character can be seen proposing to Riya Shibu's character by calling her "Hey Malini," a reference to Suriya's line from Vaaranam Aayiram. Notably, the film stars Riya as a character named Swathy R Krishna.
