This Friday marks the first release anniversary of L2: Empuraan, director-actor Prithviraj Sukumaran's ambitious sequel to his 2019 film Lucifer, starring Mohanlal in the lead role. On the special occasion, the film's composer Deepak Dev shared on Instagram the original recorded version of its title track.
Sharing the track with an L2: Empuraan poster, featuring Mohanlal, Deepak Dev wrote, "The music had its share of voices ā some loud, some critical ā but above all, there was a genuine wave of listeners who saw it, felt it, and kept it alive. On this 1st anniversary, Iām sharing a track exactly as it was recorded for the film ā now presented so you can experience every detail, every layer, in its full depth with the Macedonian orchestra.
This is for those who truly listened. The complete OST will be released soon."
It is worth noting that Deepak received much criticism for the soundtrack of the Lucifer sequel, especially its background music, at the time of its release. He even brought it up to director Prithviraj, but the latter told him to not listen to the criticism and enjoy the break with his family. Prithviraj is a massive admirer of Deepak's work and regards him as one of India's best music directors.
Deepak has served as a composer on all three of Prithviraj's directorials: Lucifer and its sequel as well as Bro Daddy. The composer also expressed his gratitude to the audience who appreciated his work for the second part to Lucifer amidst all the negativity around it. "My heartfelt thanks to everyone who gave love to the music of Empuraan. This journey continues because of you," he signed off.
It remains to be seen whether a third film will be made in the Lucifer franchise and whether Deepak will be part of it as well.
