On Saturday, actor Mohanlal attended the wedding celebrations of filmmaker Blessy’s son Adith and spoke warmly about his long-standing bond with the director and his family. Several members of the Malayalam film industry were present at the event, but Mohanlal’s affectionate remarks about Blessy stood out as a highlight of the evening.

Speaking at the celebration, Mohanlal said the occasion felt deeply personal to him. “It feels as though my own son’s wedding is taking place. That is the kind of bond I share with Blessy and his family. Our relationship goes back to the time of Namukku Parkkan Munthirithoppukal. His family holds a very special place in my heart. I’m happy that I was invited, happy that I could come, and happy to see all of you,” he said, while conveying his wishes to the couple. The bond between Mohanlal and Blessy stretches back decades. Namukku Parkkan Munthirithoppukal was the film on which Blessy worked as an assistant director under the late filmmaker Padmarajan. Blessy later went on to become one of Malayalam cinema’s most prominent filmmakers.

Blessy made his directorial debut with Kazhcha in 2004, starring Mammootty in the lead role. His second film, Thanmathra (2005), brought him together with Mohanlal for the first time as a director. The family drama received widespread acclaim, and Mohanlal won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor for his performance. Over the years, Blessy has collaborated the most with Mohanlal as his lead actor. Apart from Thanmathra, the two also worked together on Bhramaram and Pranayam. Mohanlal also lent his voice as the narrator for Blessy’s documentary 100 Years of Chrysostom.

Blessy’s most recent directorial venture is the 2024 survival drama Aadujeevitham, starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and based on the celebrated novel of the same name.

Meanwhile, Mohanlal will next be seen in Jeethu Joseph's Drishyam 3, the much-awaited third instalment of the popular Drishyam franchise, which is set to hit theatres worldwide on April 2.
