Filmmaker Krishnendu Kalesh, best known for his State Award-winning debut feature Prappeda, has sparked speculation about his next project with a social media post featuring Malayalam superstar Mammootty. On Sunday, the director shared a photograph of himself with the veteran actor and captioned it, "@ Mammooka's residence. Repeated meetings. Rising momentum. Excited 🎥." While he stopped short of revealing details, the caption has led many to believe that a collaboration may be on the cards.
Krishnendu made his directorial debut with the indie Prappeda, an experimental film with an unconventional narrative style and striking visual language that premiered in the Bright Future section of the International Film Festival of Rotterdam. It later screened at the 26th International Film Festival of Kerala and earned him the Best Debutant Director award at the 52nd Kerala State Film Awards in 2022.
Mammootty, meanwhile, continues to balance mainstream entertainers with content-driven cinema, frequently backing and encouraging emerging filmmakers. If the hinted collaboration materialises, it would mark an interesting pairing between a veteran actor known for constant reinvention and a young director with a bold approach.
The Bramayugam actor will next be seen in Mahesh Narayanan's ambitious multistarrer Patriot, which reunites him with Mohanlal after a long gap. The film, slated to hit theatres worldwide on April 23, has Fahadh Faasil playing the antagonist opposite the veterans. Mammootty is currently shooting for auteur Adoor Gopalakrishnan’s Padayaatra, marking his reunion with the celebrated filmmaker after a gap of 32 years.
