A new Malayalam film titled Kalasa Bandhitham is set to go on floors on July 20, the makers announced at the film's title launch event held in Kodungallur recently. The project is written and directed by debutant Nishad K Saleem and is being produced under the banners JJ Castle Entertainments and Kadha Factory by Jideesh TJ, Jayan TM and James John Tharang.
Billed as a nostalgic humour drama, Kalasa Bandhitham is expected to revisit the school-going years of the 1990s through a story packed with comic situations and nostalgic moments. The makers describe it as a full-fledged comedy entertainer, with the recently released motion poster also hinting at the film's light-hearted tone and retro setting.
The film features a large ensemble cast featuring actors Vineeth Thattil, Biju Kuttan, Sudheer Paravoor, Jayashankar, Nandu Poduval, Pauly Valsan, Kudassanad Kanakam, Baby, Latha Das and RJ Anjali. It also stars rapper and actor Baby Jean, Abu Salim, Franco Francis, Govind V Pai, Anu Marvan, Anu Saf and Thudarum-fame Amrutha Varshini in prominent roles. Apart from the actors, several popular social media personalities are also part of the cast.
The film has cinematography handled by Vishnu Narayanan, while National Award-winning editor Ranjan Abraham serves as the editor. Music is composed by Steve Kottoor, who gained attention for his background score for the blockbuster Dhurandhar: The Revenge. The crew also includes costume designer Sameera Saneesh, makeup artist Ronex Xavier and art director Saji Joseph. Kalasa Bandhitham will be shot across locations in Kochi and Palakkad.
Vineeth, who made his acting debut in Lijo Jose Pellissery's Angamaly Diaries, was last seen in Karakkam, which also marked the most recent release of Vaazha 2 actor Biju.
Baby made his acting debut in Khalid Rahman's 2025 sports comedy Alappuzha Gymkhana as David John. While his debut performance drew praise, it was his portrayal of Subhash in Bharathanatyam 2: Mohiniyattam that earned him wider recognition.
