Earlier this Tuesday, Aashirvad Cinemas revealed that Vismaya Mohanlal's debut film as an actor, titled Thudakkam, has received a U/A 16+ certificate from the Censor Board. The update comes around a week before the release of the film, which is slated for August 07, Friday. The film is directed by Jude Anthany Joseph from a screenplay he has written alongside Linish Nellikkal and Akhil Krishna.
Produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the Aashirvad Cinemas banner, Thudakkam also stars the producer's son Aashish Joe Antony, Vismaya's father Mohanlal, Sai Kumar, Bobby Kurian, Manoj K Jayan, Ganesh kumar, Aswin, Essa, Kottayam Ramesh, Jaya Kurup, and Jaffar Idukki.
The latest update about the film comes after criticism for Vismaya Mohanlal for her stance on the student protests over NEET paper leaks in Delhi. Critical of law enforcement action on the protesters, the actor's post read, "Do you genuinely believe this is how a democracy should respond to its own citizens?"
Subsequently, netizens abused Vismaya Mohanlal, with many of them calling her 'anti-national'. Meanwhile, filmmaker Major Ravi said that the actor's reaction stemmed from empathy and not political awareness. The filmmaker stated that he has known her since childhood and described her as a tender and sensitive person who often gets moved by others' suffering. He also asked people not to interpret Vismaya's post as being political, saying that she lacks the nuance to opine on the issue.
Meanwhile, the actor has received much support from a section of the audience, including the film industry. For example, filmmaker Santhivila Dinesh praised Vismaya for sharing her thoughts on the issue, appreciating her boldness, and said that people would watch her film Thudakkam and make it a commercial success.
